Covid-19: Why is Asia Doing better?

Why are infections and deaths surging in the United States from the coronavirus? As of mid-June, 2020, the U.S. recorded more than 119,000 deaths and 2.18 million infections. Every day those totals increase substantially. Yet Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam are seeing almost no new cases each day. In the southwest Pacific, New Zealand has a splendid record dealing with the virus, and Australia is not far behind. Why can’t the United States do much better?
